Recently I was dealt a crushing blow.
Because of a flight cancelation, I went from having a first class ticket to a middle seat in the back of the plane.
On this episode, we talk about dealing with disappointment and why we feel what we focus on.
I learned this from a 2018 Tony Robbins’s interview.
After a disappointment, I suffer due to 3 triggers:
Loss
The feeling that I have lost something. I lost an opportunity. I lost that moment. I lost respect.
Less
Because of what happened, I now have less of what I value. Less love, less joy, less energy, less money.
Never
Because of what happened, I will never have… That love, that joy, that goal, that need met, that thing I really wanted.
In the past, these triggers led straight to porn.
My feelings took over. I tried to desperately gain what was lost. I felt entitled to binge or indulge. I was hopeless that things would never change.
“But the way out,” Tony says. “Is appreciation, gratitude, and love.” “We feel what we focus on.”
It’s impossible to feel gratitude and anger at the same time. Or appreciation and envy. We choose what we focus on.
